It is Tuesday and we are back home and trying to get back into the swing of things. We arrived back Sunday afternoon--probably one of the LONGEST afternoons in quite sometime. Between the time change, the lack of food and sleep and the airport delays we were all pretty crispy by the time we got home. Monday proved to be a stressful one for me at work and a very busy one for Ken and the boys were beside themselves with sleep deprivation. Sawyer was so tired that he fell asleep at lunch time while chewing and even though he was sound asleep, he continued to put food into his mouth then stop mid-chew. Ken said it was one of the funniest things he has ever seen.
All in all we had a really nice time visiting Ken's family. The flights out and back were about as expected; Sawyer was less than thrilled and let everyone know as much. (We had a delay BOTH times in Chicago-the first one was two hours but luckily we were able to run around the airport. The second we were stuck an extra hour on the plane before takeoff which was miserable. Ugh) The weather was a bit dreary (they have had the rainiest summer on record) but we still managed to get out and about. We visited the Strong Museum of Play and the kids had a SO much fun. It is probably one of the best kid's museums out there and it was so big we could have easily spent a day or two just there. We got to go down to the lake and look around and Liam said "Wow-it's a lot bigger than I imagined it would be!" Of course Sawyer was fixated on trying to climb around on the giant rocks surrounding the pier...
On Saturday Ken's Mom had a big shindig and Ken was surprised by one of his childhood friends John, who made the drive with his wife and (4!) kids all the way from Boston. John and his wife Molly are *super* nice people and I really enjoyed talking with them and meeting their kids. Before the party began Liam was playing around with his new Spiderman action figure and accidentally managed to swallow the head. It was a small piece of hard plastic that popped off while he was playing. After a call to the pediatrician's office we were assured that as long as he could eat and drink and wasn't having any abdominal pain he was probably in the clear. So now we are on the lookout for Spiderman's head come potty time...
All in all, a very nice trip that went by much too quickly.
