Gone West
Today I went to the funeral of my friend and coworker's husband, the pilot. The memorial was held at their airplane hangar and was probably one of the most difficult yet moving services I have ever been to. It was a beautiful blue sky day--perfect for flying. Apparently when a pilot dies, they are said to have "Gone West" and are wished "blue skies and tailwinds forever." Today was definitely the kind that pilot's dream of. Afterwards, a group of four antique war planes did a fly-over and on the last lap, one lone plane flew west towards the mountains and into the distance. Very beautiful and touching.
