That is what Ken said when he went outside yesterday morning--the temps here are FRIGID. This is the coldest and longest weather snap that I recall experiencing in quite sometime. It will be one week of below temp cold on Wednesday. TOday the high was near 12 (not sure it ever made it up that high). The next day that it will be normal temps (40s+) will be Saturday. Ugh. It is so miserably cold that I have lacked motivation to do anything other then stay wrapped in warm blankets-clothes. Taking a shower in the morning is a true test of grit-how fast can I get in and out and clothed before hypothermia sets in... I went for a run at lunch today (even though it is frigid-I still have to make myself get in the miles. WHY I decided to do Boston again is beyond me...). THe temp was a balmy 7 degrees at noon when I ran. It was actually quite beautiful at lunch-sunny and snowy. It was so cold that the snow looked like crystals on all of the trees. The plus side about the temps being this cold is that no one goes out--so I get the running routes mostly to myself. :-)
Because it has been so cold I did not want to take the boys out this weekend. So we didn't get our Christmas tree or put up decorations or start the shopping. I just could not bring myself to venture from the cocoon of warmth. Poor Liam sat at his art table tonight doing his homework draped in blankets. When he came into my room he said "Mommy it is too cold in here! Let's leave. NOW!" He is right--it IS really cold in here. Ken put some towels and other things on the windows to try and absorb some of the draft in the old windows. The boys rooms are really bad. Beanie *refuses* to use a blankie and gets mad if I put one on him. I sneak in after he falls asleep and I cover him up. He has been waking up numerous* times every night since this cold spell descended on us. I am not sure if it is because he is cold, not feeling 100% or a combination thereof--either way it has been rough. He wakes me up every two hours. Sad to say but I think I am so used to it now that it hardly fazes me anymore.
Right now I am huddled on my bed trying to type and stay warm at the same time. Tomorrow they are calling for another 4 to 7 inches of snow on top of what fell this weekend. It definitely is beginning to look a lot like Christmas--at least on the outside.
