A day (or week, depending on energy levels) in the life of a working illustrator/marathon running mommy of two small and very active boys and the wife of one bigger boy.

Commence Christmas
The frigid cold snap finally broke and the temps soared to 50. The boys & I were on an early morning mission to get Operation Christmas Commencement under way. We were out the door early and managed to get a few gifts, some decorations, a live tree and wreath purchased all before noon. Decorating the tree, however, was an all day affair. After removing Beanie multiple times from the decorations and cleaning up the bulbs he broke and then running out TWO separate times to buy more lights because TWO sets quit working...the tree was complete. It does look rather pretty and certainly smells nice--but I couldn't help but think while putting it together that I am counting down the days until I will be packing it all up in two weeks. I still am trying to psyche myself into some sort of Holiday Cheer but am not really there. I am putting forth all my Holiday effort for the boys. I'm trying to build special memories and traditions but I've gotta be honest--I am already looking forward to December 26. I think it is because I feel SO overwhelmed as it is, then you add the Christmas expectations:shopping, decorating, cookies! and it just makes me want to fast forward. BUT-these boys deserve a cheery, festive, sugar and gift laden Christmas and that is what they are going to get. Liam was already asking me tonight when we are going to start baking cookies...I told him I needed to recover from today, first.
