Beanie is injured :-(

It was a nice weekend (FINALLY!) here in Colorado. For nearly the first time in 8 weeks it did not drizzle all weekend. The sun was out in force (with the exception a late day sprinkle) for the whole 48 hrs of weekend. I don't ever recall THIS much moisture living in Colorado. Yesterday the boys and I took a walk to get Liam's hair cut and then smoothies followed by a rousing game of "tag"out in the back yard. Liam also discovered this weekend that he could climb trees and he has been preoccupied with doing little else while outside.

This morning I got up and officially commenced with marathon training for the fall race (St. George, UT). It was only a ten miler but it was just enough to make me need a nap later in the afternoon. All last night I tossed and turned because my back has been giving me fits and I was less than thrilled at the thought of what ten miles would do to it but as has been the case with me, the run actually seemed to *improve* the back. Ever since my snowboarding "incident" I have been struggling with the lower back hurting and keeping me up at night--I just never seem to get comfortable. So to do the run and actually feel better afterward is encouraging. Here's hoping anyway...

To finish out the day I took the boys for a walk to the park while Ken cleaned the garage. WHile there, Beanie had a blast climbing up the giant climbing apparatus--so much so, in fact, that he gave me a heart attack with how quickly he was at the top. I panicked when he kept running from side to side and I couldn't get to him quick enough. I caught him trying to lean forward to grab the fireman pole type thing that the bigger kids slide down. There was no time to climb up after him so I grabbed onto his shirt and forcibly pulled him down. I have said it before many times but Sawyer is a VERY STRONG child--frighteningly so. He refused to get down so somehow in my panic to get him down he got his foot/leg caught up on the upper platform. He cried very hard and I was suddenly scared that I hurt him somehow trying to pull him down. He stopped crying shortly after I got him and hugged him and I didn't think anymore of it.

Fast forward 20 minutes later when we got back home and I got him out of the stroller. Ken said "Why is Sawyer limping?" I looked over and sure enough he was limping BADLY, favoring his one leg. I was instantly sick inside, afraid that I somehow dislocated his leg joint trying to pull him down off the platform. Ken said "It looks like his ankle--it is swollen and he can't put any weight on it." Sure enough, somehow in the struggle I managed to hurt my Bean. I am still not sure *how* exactly but obviously I did something bad. I immediately got him dressed to take him to the Urgent Care but Ken convinced me to wait until tomorrow to see how it is after a night's rest since Sawyer wasn't crying out in pain. On the contrary he was as active as usual--climbing on top of stuff and dancing around. Ken kept telling me "We need to keep him off his feet!" but pray tell HOW we do that short of strapping him down is beyond me...

So, I am wiped out and feeling very sad that I hurt my own child while trying to keep him from breaking his neck. I am hoping that tomorrow he wakes up with no limp and no swelling but if he does..it's off the doctor. NOTE TO SELF: Next time we go to the park I am taking at LEAST two spotters with me to monitor the play equipment at all times.
