Last night was Liam's Kindergarden orientation—a chance for us all to meet the teachers and learn more about what to expect in the next year. Liam was VERY excited to go to his "oreotation" and kept asking me, "Is there an Uh-Oh chair in kindergarden?", and, "What happens if you are naughty in kindergarden?" I'm not sure I am liking this line of questioning...kind of like when he asks me over and over "What happens if I push that button?" or, "What would happen if I pulled that handle??"
In any case, after meeting the teachers and seeing the other parents I felt even MORE confident that we made the right choice in schools. When we walked in we were greeted by three smiling ladies, and the youngest of the three said, "Liam, right? For some reason that name sticks out and is easy for me to remember! " She handed us a packet and we went and sat down with all the other excited, wiggly kids. The teachers proceeded to sing songs and do some dances and teach the kids & parents what to expect in the upcoming year. It turns out that the young, attractive smiling woman who greeted us when we got there is going to be Liam's teacher (yeah!!!!). She seems firm but energetic and caring and that seems to be a good fit for our guy.
As we were leaving we had the opportunity to go up to the teachers and say hello and Liam suddenly became VERY shy and clingy. He put out his hand to shake hers and he got a bashful look on his face and buried his head into my leg. I told the teacher, "He is ANYTHING but shy! Really and truly, I don't know why he is suddenly acting this way..." The teacher said "That's ok, there are lots of people here and lots of new things so it is understandable if he is a bit overwhelmed" Liam suddenly forgot he was supposed to be "bashful" and asked her, 'So where are we going to sit at circle time? Is it a carpet? What color is it? Is it a circle??" The teacher started laughing at Liam's sudden rapid fire questioning. She answered all his questions. As we were walking away he asked me yet again, "Is there an Uh-Oh chair in kindergarden???"
Tonight...PRESCHOOL GRADUATION! Hopefully I'll be able to take a few pictures/video to share.
