I just heard on the news that a small town about 20 minutes away from here had a rather pesky mountain lion harassing residents. Apparently the big cat broke into the home of a couple who left their french doors open to catch some cool breezes. The cat got scared away when the homeowner turned on the light, but not before the cat ran off into the hillside with their big Labrador in its jaws, killing it. Another neighbor heard the lion (presumably the same one) clawing at her door and window trying to get in.
Shudder.
I already have nightmares about bears picking the locks to get into my house. Now I have to worry about mountain lions even though they are highly unlikely to ever venture this far down the mountain into Suburbia. I think.
Postscript: Due to the erratic behavior of the lion, a trap was set and the cat was caught and put down.
